charger 15, where is the low end?

Postby idscasper » February 19th, 2011, 10:35 pm

Hi, Finally i have bought a charger 15. After some low wind test i feel a bit dissapointed. The lasta one was in about 8-10 clean onshore knots. In those conditions wiht my fs p4 12m ( the kite that was supussed to be replaced) I can ride quite powered and even make small 3 o 4 f high jumps. But with charger i just couldn jump anything. And have small pull. Much less than i thought. Where does the fun starts, in 15 knots? I hvae tried to short the central trim and also have tried all the bridage knots. But not great improvements. I have chated with another mate that has this same problem ( and he alway has flied PL). Am i doing something wrong or just that its very underpower. Need help please!

I don't know if you have any particular problem with your setup, but for me, all Arcs tend to come alive above a certain wind. Below that point, they're not powerful and no fun. Above that point, they all of sudden become very responsive and powerful. I've found the Chargers work this way too and I don't think a 19 would make me ride any earlier than my 15 does, as I'm a lightweight.

Try it in a few more knots and tell us what you think.

I sold my 13m Psycho III thinking I would replace it with a 19m Charger. Didn't find the 19 was flying any earlier than the 15 ( without a fan ) so stuck with the 15m. I too was left short and frustrated on the low end. I can get a ride out of the Charger in those winds but like you , can't jump. It just needs a bit more wind. I bought a 10.8 Reactor and an 18m Phantom looking to fill the low end. The Reactor does the job for almost no winds but twice last week I was overpowered + lifted by gusts that would not have been an issue on the Flysurfer. I have yet to try but have big hopes for the 18m Phantom! ?

I am hoping that PL may be offering up a good low wind solution with the LEI ? The Phanny II ? Some kind of bridled depower foil ? ...
Arcs In my bag : Synergy - 15m, 10m , Phantom - 18m, F-arc 1200 , S-arc 460, T-arc 1.3

P/A (projected area)on the P3 13m was (I think) about 11.5m. P/A on the Charger 15m is 9.5.

To replace that 13m P3 with a Charger, the 19m with the PA of 9.5 would have been a better direct replacement.

The fun starts with a 19 in about 14-15mph of wind, so I would say the fun starts with a 15 in about 16-17mph.

...and below 14-15 MPH I grab my speargun.
I find something else to do. Yes, I'm still saving for a speed2 19m SA material.
